What VFIS Training Is

Built for the Floor, Not the Lecture Hall.

VFIS University was created by the same underwriters who see every claim that comes through the door. The curriculum is written backward from real losses — apparatus rollovers, line-of-duty injuries, scene-safety failures, dispatch errors — so the training that lands at your station addresses the exposures your roster actually faces.

It is open to every active member on a VFIS-insured department, free of charge, and accredited for continuing education in both Oklahoma and Arkansas.

How Training Is Delivered

Online, On-Site, and Hands-On.

Members complete foundational coursework online, on their own schedule, from any station laptop or personal device. An instructor then visits your house — on a date you choose — to run scenario drills, apparatus practicals, and live evaluations alongside the chief or training officer.

Virtual cohorts are available for departments coordinating mutual aid training across multiple jurisdictions. Every format is built around shift schedules — not 9-to-5 classrooms.

Lead Trainer

Marcus Holloway

Marcus came up through a rural volunteer company in eastern Oklahoma, served eleven years as a career captain in a combination department, and spent the last seven leading instructor cadres for VFIS regional programs. He has run live-fire evolutions in twelve states and authored three of the apparatus operator modules in the current VFIS curriculum.

His teaching philosophy is straightforward: drill the decisions that get people hurt, in the order they happen on the call. Every session he runs ends with a written debrief the chief can put in the department's training file.

He answers his own phone. Members can email questions directly between visits, and he writes back — usually the same day, often from a station kitchen between runs.
